To Dale Gillan, "retirement" is only a word. More importantly, itís a word that should not be taken literally. "So many people view retirement in a negative light; as if you're not supposed to be able to do anything," he says. "When I moved to Green Valley I learned that this view of retirement was not only wrong, but the complete opposite of the truth! People here are determined to make the most of each moment, and my friends and neighbors tend to be more active than ever."

Putting Time on Your Side
Those who know Dale best will tell you this belief is a perfect fit with his own. Never a person to let time get the best of him, his undeterred spirit and positive energy have kept him making every moment count throughout his life. In fact, as a perfect metaphor for his determined approach and unique perspective on life, Dale's two favorite hobbies are repairing and refurbishing antique clocks and photography.

"There's so much life within the clocks I fix. I just try to bring it back out again. Besides, I'm never going to let "time" beat me; literally or figuratively," Dale says. "Photography, on the other hand, is a chance to see the world through a different light. It tends to make you look for the beauty of the world around you and acknowledge the little details that make life special." His two favorite hobbies; not to mention golf, bridge, skiing and dancing; certainly help Dale remain young at heart, but you'll never see him more excited than when he's spending time with his family, which includes his wife, Lois, their six children and twelve grandchildren. They have always been his inspiration to be his best.

The Drive to Succeed
Growing up on a farm in Kansas, Dale learned the value of commitment and the importance of family values. It wasnít long before he experienced success through his involvement with 4-H and earned his bachelorís degree in Agriculture. No matter what he pursued or where he was, he was able to make every moment count, from serving as Secretary of the Colorado Woolgrowers Association and writing a column for a prestigious Denver area newspaper, to many years of service as a respected hospital administrator and President of the Kansas Hospital Association, to owning and operating a successful hardware store.

When it came time to "retire," Dale chose Green Valley, because it provided a chance to remain active in his hobbies and in the community. But working and helping people have always been his true passion, so it wasn't long before he began his career as a real estate professional, where for nearly a decade, he has been helping others throughout Green Valley make the most of their retirement years. "Retirement is time that should be enjoyed," Dale says. "It turns out real estate is what I enjoy doing most."
